Puppies

Puppy Social- $10 per visit

Pups must be 12 to 18 weeks of age at the start of attending socials. Taught inside a clean and sterilized dog daycare. Daphne Robert-Hamilton, CPDT of K-9 Partnership will be supervising the socials along with class assistants. She will be assessing your pup's play style, body language and energy levels. Bully's will be timed-out for rough or inappropriate play and shy dogs will be given the opportunity to integrate at their own pace. We will also discuss training tips and answer questions regarding dog behavior.

Proof of vaccination and a negative fecal exam are required to be admitted. Bring them with you to your first social. Flat collars only (no metal or slip collars). No flexi-leashes. Guardian 18 years old or older MUST accompany dog throughout the social. Bring yummy small pea size treats. Space may be limited. When room is full, social will be closed to any other pups who may show up. Trainer reserves the right to excuse any pup from social for any reason.

PLEASE RSVP 3 DAYS  prior to attending: must have at least 2 pups to make a social otherwise it will be cancelled for that week.

Every Monday night*  Start: 6pm

Location: Four Paws Dog Daycare

*only if there are enough puppies

Puppy Head-Start!  $100 5 sessions.

This is a modular program.  You have 2 months to complete 5 sessions.

Limited space available - you must fill out a registration form prior to attending orientation.

Veterinarian Letter about the importance of socialization while considering health concerns.

Health requirements:

- proof of your puppy's inoculation (s) - puppy must receive at least it's first vaccination 10 days prior to start of class.

- negative fecal result

Your pup is too young to qualify for a rabies vaccination which would then permit you to get a city license. When they reach 4 months old, they will be receiving their rabies vaccination. Get a rabies certificate from your vet and then apply for the city license.

Orientation is at 630pm - please bring required paperwork. You can then participate in class at 6:45pm.

You will be turned away without the proper  health paperwork to protect the health of the other participants.

This program is for very young puppies starting at 9 weeks of age  but not older than 13 weeks at start of class -  with the proper health screen. Class will be cancelled if less then 4 pups are signed up.  The objective is to provide an immediately available class for the youngest of pups. Orientation is every two weeks.

Class duration is between 30-40 minutes long.

The is a great class for new owners since we help develop observational skills on reading dog body language and judge when a pup is approaching fear/anxiety threshold or becoming overly stimulated.

There are seven main categories covered in this program.

- family relationships with the puppy

-care and handling of the puppy

-good house and toilet manners

-interactions with other people

-interactions with other dogs

-new experiences: objects, surfaces, smells

-new experiences: sights, sounds, touch, motion, etc.

** AWARENESS - your puppy might be overwhelmed with this environment - it is critical that we are sensitive to a puppy's behavior response and not ignore it. If the pup is experiencing stress, anxiety or fear I will speak with you to be sensitive to it's needs  so that the pup isn't "emotional hurt".  You might be asked to increase distance from others.

What to bring:

- a hungry puppy

- favorite toys and chew things

- stuft kong

- matt

- water

This class meets once a week depending on the number of pups every week. You must attend orientation prior to attending a class - orientation is for humans only please!

PLEASE RSVP 3 DAYS  prior to attending: must have at least 2 pups to make a class -  otherwise it will be cancelled for that week.

Dogs must be able to be handled gently by a friendly stranger and must be able to safely work around other people and dogs on leash. Special needs dogs are permitted in class and will be given specific guidance.

This course is designed to help you pass the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen test.  The AKC's CGC Program was started in 1989. CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community.  The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the AKC. At the first class with dogs, we will take a baseline performance test so that we can focus on building up the weaker behaviors. Exercises: 1-Accepting a Friendly Stranger, 2- sitting politely for petting, 3-appearance and grooming, 4-loose leash walking, 5-walking through a crowd, 6-sit and down on verbal cue and staying in place, 7-coming when called, 8-reaction to distractions, 9-reaction to another dog, 10- supervised separation. The dog must wear a flat buckle collar or martingale collar during the actual test - in class the dog can wear approved equipment.  At the end of the course, a CGC Evaluator with test the students for certification.  Clicker training optional - owners choice.

NO CORRECTIONS will be tolerated in this class.

AGE: due to AKC requirements - dogs must be old enough to receive their rabies shot to be tested - which means any dog over 5 months of age.

This course is a pre-requisite for those that want to move onto service or therapy work. To become a dog/handler team you will need to be certified by an organization specific to the service or therapy work.

This course is designed to help you understand the various doggy play styles and "problem" areas when dealing with a group of unfamiliar dogs off leash. The first two classes are without dogs (not including orientation). The first two sessions will be similar to a workshop to focus on  your education and developing your eye by watching video presentations of dogs at play. You will learn to be proactive in environmental management to eliminate any potential tipping over of aggressive behaviors. You will also be taught how to handle dogs that do get into a scuffle. Different play styles: Tarzan, bully, asocial, proximity sensitive, resource guarder, A+, just a few friends, and compulsive fighter.  You must read FIGHT! by Jean Donaldson prior to orientation.

You will learn about brain functions, arousal levels, recovery time, canine communication signals and how to use counter-conditioning and desensitization. This class is taught in an open field using lots of distance between teams. Class is taught via walkie-talkie. Must read How To Right A Dog Gone Wrong by Pamela Dennison prior to orientation.
